40 day Business start up foundation course This is THE complete Dog Grooming course and offers everything contained in the 30 day course and is especially suited to students intending to open their own salon. In addition, it includes a dog first aid course, business start up programme, marketing, bookkeeping, managing a successful customer base with all the tricks of the trade needed to secure recommendations and obtain recognition. The forty day course is aimed at the student who truly wishes to work as a professional dog groomer, and running your own salon. All the aspects of dog grooming will be covered, and you will have the opportunity to observe different dog breeds and the methods employed in their grooming and styling, this will include bathing, drying de-matting, ear and nail care. There will also be written assignments to complete. Included also on this course are dog handling techniques, tools and equipment recognition and use, clipping and scissoring popular breeds, use of different shampoos, conditioners and products for different coat types, plus basic breed recognition, coat types and styles, parasites, anal glands, skin conditions, health and safety, personal protection and hygiene. Additionally we include a basic pre-groom health check, dog behaviour, using a wider variety of grooming blades for styling and clipping, correct strip offs, basic clips, reverse clipping, doing correct patterns, clipper techniques, trimming and shaping using scissors and thinners plus handstripping. For students wishing to run a salon, we include record card and diary management, customer care and telephone skills, advertising and marketing, plus basic bookkeeping. You will also encounter a wider selection of dog breeds and designer cross breeds. A typical day will start at 10am with instruction on the itinerary for that days tuition, and the tasks that the student will undertake, plus a talk on health and safety, fire precautions and codes of practice within a busy salon. There will be breaks for refreshments, including lunch. Students are welcome to bring their own food, or alternatively, the salon is just yards from many cafe`s and takeaways. Typically the day will end at around 4pm. You will also have the opportunity to interact with clients and learn the practical day to day skills needed to run a salon.
