Cutting it to collar chance of award win

A Burry Port businesswoman is proving that the Welsh have a passion for their pooches.

Mandy Miller, who set up her dog grooming business Cutz 4 Mutz just over a year ago, has been shortlisted for the Women in Business New Business of the Year award.

The 47-year-old, who hails from South Africa, has seen her business take off phenomenally in just a short time.

The awards, which are sponsored by the Star's sister paper the South Wales Evening Post and Swansea Bay Business Life, in association with Bluestone National Park Resort, seek to promote excellence in the business field and recognise high-achievers.

Mandy's short-listing comes after her business went from being just based at her home to moving into a small shop.

She started with one customer and now has around 600 clients and 1,000 dogs to look after.

"It just took off," said Mandy.   .

"More and more dogs were coming from recommendations and word of mouth, building up since March last year. In October, I had to move to new premises because we had too much work and I decided to start training students."

The business has since had 25 students who have gone on to start their own businesses across the world.

Franchises

Mandy, whose business is based in Station Road, said: "I have had a student from Goa, India, a girl from Brazil, there were students from Wales, England and Ireland, and there's a girl coming from Cyprus."

Mandy added: "I think it's a great story for Carmarthenshire that there's a grooming school that's employing people and training them to employ people and to set up their own businesses."
