Frequently asked questions
1) I have no previous grooming experience, will this hinder my chances of completing the course successfully?
It does not matter if you have no experience as we will teach you everything you will need to know.
2) I want to do a foundation course, but do I have to do a beginner course first?
It is not necessary to do a beginner course before a foundation course, you can start a foundation course with no experience whatsoever.
3) How frequently do your courses run, which days and what times?
Our courses run throughout the year with new students starting each week and run Monday to Friday from 10am until 4pm
4) I do not have any grooming tools, do you supply all the equipment I will require?
You are welcome to bring your own tools if we deem them suitable for salon use, otherwise each student is issued a start up kit which they are responsible for, and may purchase at the end of their course.
5) What type of clothing would you recommend I wear during the course?
We advise loose comfortable attire with flat shoes. It is a good idea to purchase a grooming top prior to starting, however, we do lend tops to students who do not have their own.
6) Will I be allowed to participate in the grooming or am I merely to observe and take notes?
Unlike some training establishments, we involve our students in a `hands on` experience from day one, and, during each week, there will be opportunity to observe other students and stylists grooming dogs. You will be encouraged to take notes and photos of their grooming as well as your own throughout the course.
7) Will I be qualified to groom immediately after completing a course?
If you enrol in one of our 20 day, 30 day or 40 day courses, you will be issued with a LANTRA ID card and certificate, which is a nationally recognised qualification. You should have learned all the necessary skills to groom competently after attending a 20 day course or longer, importantly, we do offer 24hr advice and support via phone and email should you need any assistance.
8) How many breeds of dog will I be capable of styling on your course?
This depends on the duration of course you choose to enrol on. On the longer courses, you will obviously groom more dogs and as you gain experience you will be able to increase your grooming speed. Depending on which breeds you groom, and your ability, many students are capable of grooming four dogs per day towards the end of the longer courses. Students will be able to groom Poodles with a continental clip, as well as other popular breeds.

We do advise you book both course and accommodation in advance, You may if you prefer, bring your own bedding. As the accommodation is shared and self catering, you may bring a small supply of groceries for your needs. However, if you prefer to stay elsewhere, or book at short notice, we do have a choice of clean low priced, local Bed & Breakfasts we can recommend.

As Business of the year 2010, we have already been commended on our skill in running our own business, and in helping past students do so themselves, many have gone on to open successful salons, and so can you!
11) Can any of your courses be divided into smaller parts and spread over a longer period?
Yes we can do this for you, but please bear in mind if you want to book our accommodation, we will need as much notice as possible to do this for you.
12) Will I get a certificate when I finish the course, and how can I make payment?
Yes, we issue all of our students a private certificate on all courses except the 1 day course. The 20 day, 30 day and 40 day will additionally receive a LANTRA accredited certificate.
